Well, as a former hobby jeweler, I can add a couple.
The wax patterns require details not machinable.
The wax patterns are assembled to each other or a larger piece,
creating something not machinable. (by anything less than a full 5 axis
machine anyway)
Wax patterns machine a LOT faster than any metal and are easier on
tooling.

And there's probably still more reasons...<G>
