I had to look up erudite before I figured out I wasn't offended.

The Sinterstation rapid prototypes use a polystyrene that is very
porus and then dip this into molten wax.

You may find a combination of styrene and wax that will hold detail
and not flake and still burn out.

I was thinking about the green styrene that's used in fake flower
arrangements. Maybe soak this in some molten wax and try to machine
that.
