Grey Cast Iron is the "standard" for iron castings. Meehanite is a
material AND process variation which results in a "better" cast iron
for machine tools.

Mickey mouse toys is a "standard" put down of lighter duty machines,
made from other than the above materials. Often aluminum extrusions
are used in these lower cost tools (Sherline, MaxNC, Warthog, Gerber
Sabre, etc.) and this is considered analogous to blasphemy by
some "cast iron rules!" experts. Meanwhile owners continue to make
money and/or parts in spite of these put downs of their chosen machine
(s).
