Hello Senor Peter,
Wood cutting can be more stressful to a machine than first imagined.
The cutting of something like southern yellow pine with its hard/soft
grain and the corrosive action of the "liquid" parts of the wood can
make for uneven loading of the cutter and shock loads comparable to
some types of metal cutting. Also Knots. (in some wood types these
are commonly encountered; as is silica and other minerals drawn into
the tree while it was alive).
Repeatability is more important than almost anything else, IMO. And
resolution and robustness questions usually lead to "opinion-wars",
since they depend SO MUCH on intended use of the machine.
It's sort of like asking, "What is the best type of vehicle for
hauling wood?"
The CORRECT answer could be anything from a wheelbarrow or import
pickup to a semi flatbed, to a commercial "logging" tractor-trailer.
We simply can't reliably answer such a broad question.
If more information is given, we can come to a good choice rather
quickly, although there will still be opinions and experience working
against, rather than for, a single "agreed" conclusion...
Hope this helps.
