Darren,
As I understand it, yes they are "basically" the same. There "might"
be a small variation in some of the measurements, but then again I
have several different manuals and they all use the same part
numbers. When I blew the worm wheel on my HF RF31, I got a new one
from MSC and it fit perfectly.
If you look at my web site, and specifically at the X axis mount,
this the one that I would change. I mounted the tube horizontal and
lost a couple of inches of X travel on that end. I would make it
vertical so the mount for the servo could run in between the saddle
dovetails and also, would modify the existing bearing mount similar
to the way it was done on the other end of the X axis and on the Y axis.
I like the idea of being able to mount the encoders on the ballscrew,
but you MUST shield it from coolant (in the process of changing that
now). Not related to the cnc portion, but I would also make my stand
wider and have the bottom of the legs bolted to the floor. I didn't
do that originally as I thought I might move the machine in the future.
Hope this helps, but you can always get a hold of me to ask any questions.
