By micro feed, I assume you mean the worm gear that drives
the quill's rack pinion? There is so much backlash in that mechanism
on most machines that you will be lucky to have less than .050"
of slack. Really, the only way to do it is to rig a screw of some
sort (ballscrew is best, of course) to the quill directly. Some short
ballscrews come up on eBay quite frequently, and their use is limited
by the shortness, so they go fairly cheap. I've senn them sell for
~ $15.
