About the only size that will fit and still be big enough is the
5/8" ballscrew. I was able to use a double nut on my X and Y but the
Z only had room for a single ballnut.
If you plan on doing anything with fine detail in the Z I would
again recommend hooking up a ball screw for the Z.
I have done some engravings from photos that need have very small Z
movements that I do not think you could get without the ballscrew on
the Z.
What I did was clamped around the bottom of the quill with a
bracket that the ballscrew attached to.
I was lucky enough to have access to a Bridgeport EZ track when I
made my brackets so it was pretty easy going. Once I had the XY
going I finished some of the Z parts on my own mill.
