For what it's worth, I just did this same (BP1) conversion with EMC.

I used a new power supply, and gecko vampires - The machine runs like a
top. I'll upgrade motors if one wears out, but putting modern electronics
on the old motors makes the performance more than acceptable for a hobby
machine.
