All the commercial shops I know do it the same way. They are geared up
for making multiples of the same part.

All new inserts or tools are used, first part is run then measured. If
needed, changes are made to tool offsets then part is run again, if
that's in tolerance - go with production run.

All the shops I know have manual machines. One-off simple parts are done
on those.

I've asked several, none would use Mach or EMC in a production turning
environment. Mach mainly because of it's lack of servo support and
positional feedback, EMC because of the lack of a usable feed hold and a
lack of expertise or desire to tailor the software to work like a
commercial control.
