At least in the version I have, run from line doesn't re-start the
spindle. There is an option
to make mode changes (manual <=> Auto <=> MDI) not stop the spindle, and
I have
that set. So, I have to start the spindle in MDI, switch to manual and
then do the run
from line.

Run from line can also screw up programs with loops pretty badly.

Before EMC(1), I has an Allen-Bradley 7320, a very early CNC control
with CRT.
You could hit cycle stop and punch buttons to back up a couple lines in
the program
and then start from there. If running from real paper tape, it would
read the tape
backwards to re-read the lines as you stepped forward and back. They
also had a
"jog retract" button that would allow you to back up one axis even in
the middle of
a coordinated move, and it would put it back where it had been to resume
the move.
This was on a 1978 control.
