I am NO EXPERT in this area of EMC2. There is a thing called PyVCP, Python
Virtual Control Panel, that puts a new window next to the Axis GUI window.
You can use this XML to add buttons, indicators, bar graphs and dials
and other
things of that sort, and then use HAL to connect these items to various
signals
available inside EMC. I did something really simple working from
examples, and
so didn't learn much about what you can accomplish with this. I know
some people
use it to keep track of automatic tool changers and things like that.

I know a fair bit more about hooking up HAL components to do various things.
With a lot of help from Jeff Epler, I put a pendant with axis and rate
selectors and
an MPG on my machines. This has a digital filter to prevent the coarse MPG
pulses from buzzing the servos. That is all in hardware, not the
screen, but you
can do it through PyVCP also.

Oh, you have to give some commands in the .ini file to cause these files
to be
included, I didn't mention that before.
