Chris,
On the west coast, at least, we have "two-phase", I.E., a grounded
centertap 220v transformer on the "pole" (or in the transformer pit).
So we get two 117v "mains". And no, I don't want to re-start the
2-phase vs. NOT 2-phase thread again! My hot tub pump motors run on
220v, and the natural gas water heater I mentioned earlier. 100A or
200A (approximately) services are common. 3-phase service would be
impossible to get here (CC&R's). Housing development is about 10 years
old on central coast California. My "good neighbors" surely would have
a fit if I had any "real machines"! :>(
