AFAIK, the closed loop stepper portion of EMC has never been really tested.
The part that I wonder about is what happens if a lost step is detected. I
believe it is handled just like it would be with a servo. The axis is
commanded to move faster to catch up. Problem is with a stepper if it is
loosing steps it is likely stalled or on the verge of stalling and speeding
it up will force a stall. Seems that it should reduce the feed rate
(decrement the override value??) until it can catch up to the commanded
position.
What all this rambling means is that because DeskNCRT is a port of EMC it
will have the same response and it may be the improper action.
