Smoke,
Imagine a 4x8 foot cnc router making hand mirrors (with 4 heads) 1
bit to cutout, another to edge shape (often these two are combined
when the material is inexpensive), a 3rd to do detailing (carving
florals, for example), and the 4th with a big rotary planing cutter
(like a metalworking facemill) to cut the mirror recess. The mirrors
are small, say 5x8 inches, so there are LOTS of them on the panel!
You don't want mechanical switches for this!

location and hit a switch (used as a workaround). Indexing is a
common type of this usage.
