Re: [CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO] Re: GE Mark Century...Fagor 8000...connection between the two?

I wonder what model/generation of Mark Century is in question here ? Is it
the GE2000 which was the
last of the line ? Or was it the earlier 1000 series...( 1050,1055 etc.)
The legend was that when GE and Fanuc
got together to market products here in North America, Fanuc demanded that
GE stop all CNC development. Apparently
GE never recouped the engineering/development costs for the GE2000 which
made it difficult to start the next
'generation'.....and hence part of the reason for merging with Fanuc. Fanuc
on the other hand needed a good PLC
which GE already had.....How much of this is accurate I'm not sure. I heard
it from an ex GE guy many years ago.
I would love to know how close the Fagor product is/was to the GE and if
schematics and such technical
info were/are availible. At one time GE produced technical information that
was also good educational info in
it's own right even if you did not own a NC/CNC. ( The GE550 that Sven
referred to a few posts back comes to mind )
However after the 1000 series, most of the technical doc's stop short of
explaining the 'whole nine yards', and it
was nearly impossible to get board level schematics that showed the 'nuts
and bolts'. Does anyone on the list
have any ?

Part of the reason for mentioning this is that there are good insights
into NC/CNC and servo theory that
are difficult to find in one book. If you folks who like to dumpster dive
like myself ever encounter any material
like this, you should grab it and tuck it away. It may not be relevant to
you now, but it has a habit of being a
good technical resource later on ;-)
