You are correct, the speed is controlled by the voltage sent back to the
servo drive via a tach. The encoder sends the pulses back to the controller
itself, not to the servo drives, these pulses are then used to determine
both if the speed called for is correct and also to keep pace with the
position of the cutter as commanded by the controller. You actually have 2
different systems that help control the velocity, one that goes directly to
the CNC control and the other that goes to the servo driver.\

This is why you must always "tune" new or replacement drivers to be certain
that they are in fact running at the correct speed as commanded by the CNC.
Otherwise you get following errors.
