Ballendo:
On the multiple head machines M codes are assigned by the MTB that can be
used to select the head required and then you can use normal Z axis commands
to put the head into position. In most cases with these machines you have 2
tables that are moving therefore only 2 Z axis are needed. You can also
"lock" the table drives together and use all of the heads together to cut
multiples of the same part at the same time. When using the tables
separately one can do 3 each of 2 different parts at the same time which also
increases production. These machines are of course used by larger companies
for running large production runs and they are not the ones for which I am
using the CncPRO. Mainly I was looking for a low cost way to run 3 axis with
tool radius compensation, subroutines and parametric programming which
includes the use of variables, I'm not asking for much am I. Preferably the
software would run in DOS or Windows simply because my customers prefer that.
However, the more I look at EMC the more attractive it seems to be. I plan
to do a full up test soon with it using an older machine locally here that is
available to me. I hope it works out well. It would appear that one can add
additional M codes and G codes to the source, at least that is the
implication I get. If this is indeed true then EMC would do the multiple
head machines, with some creative work.
