Hi Paolo,
this was a problem back in the early days of variable speed motor
speed controllers. if you installed an overload or disconnect
between the motor and the drive and it opened, the drive smoked.
it seems that the process is to get a stepper to move, then to do it
with power, then accuracy, then repeatability, then high power, then
timing and features, then refinment, then protection. seems we are
not up to ultimate protection as yet. seems we have to break them
first so the designers know how to add protection. (sometimes from
ourselves)
This thread is some protection to those who have not learned your
expensive lesson. Thanks for giving us the warning.
