Ron,
Maybe I am missing something here, BUT...Why would I disassemble a
NEW motor and machine the shaft down to 1/4"???
US Digital makes an encoder for a 5/8" shaft. I'm not going to hack
apart and machine a new motor so that I can 'save' $10 on an encoder!

that big of deal. The shafts would most likely be soft. Mine are
allen bradleys and they aren't hardened. Even if they are they could
use carbide inserts. Would save a whole lot of headaches. Mounting
the encoder is no big issue either, it's not like the balance wheel
of a waltham watch. If you can get the wheel mounted and encoder
buckled down and aligned, it will work fine. They arent that fussy.
it if you have trouble.
there, for OT subjects, that are not allowed on the CCED list.
