um - from what I've gathered on this list and other places, the LAST
thing you want to do with a DC motor is take it apart. The armature is
so close to the permanent magnets that it's nearly impossible to prevent
them from touching, and if they touch, you get significantly reduced
torque when you put the motor back together.

I may be off here (it could be steppers or something else entirely), but
I'd scan the lists and the net for good information before taking
anything apart.
