Well - it would, if plastic would break magnetic fields :)

I've been searching for wherever it was that I first got that warning,
and what it was for. I did find one site that mentions sliding a
plastic sheet over the armature, to protect the magnets from damage
(since they're so close, the field is exceedingly strong, and the
magnets are often fragile rare earth types).

I might have misremembered anyway - that advice may be for AC or stepper
motors (or from someone who performs magnetic health therapy. :) I'd
wait for a more expert opinion on the subject.
