I've never heard of that not touching the magnets deal. Sure wouldn't operate like that. I had all mine apart to remove the brakes and the armature and magnets touched. Didnt seem to impede them in any way. Maybe it is a no-no. But, I find it hard to understand. I could see a long period of time being detrimental.
