You seem awfully certain about this and frankly I think you should step
back and think about the problem in engineering terms. The resolution
of a mechanical system is dependant on many things not just the rotary
resolution of a stepper. Now a stepper may not be the best device for
micron level positioning but many commercial telescopes us them in their
drives.

In any event I suspect that you have not taken a good look at
GeckosDrives web site. They have more than just stepper drives, you
could just as easily drop in one of their step and direction servo
drives. Either way Gecko is not the only game in town with respect to
step and direction drives.

In any event negativity plugs up the forum. Success with these sorts
of home projects requires positive thinking and a williness to try new
things.
