This is where the histerisis loop comes in.

There is a finite time for the error to be detected,
corrective signal to be sent, corrective action to
happen and the corrective action detected.

If this length is large then the machine will loose
accuracy due to delayed correction, if too short
the accuracy goes down again but this time due
to overreaction (hunting and chattering).

So you choose where in the control system that will
give the best compromise between these two conditions
for your requirements.
