Art,
If you just designed it so that third party could write a driver
(DLL) to interface to there hardware.
Design it so that your current driver for LPT port is one of those drivers.
I'm not talking about kernel device driver, that would be up the the third
party to implement that if necessary.

As to serial drives and such, you never know....the command stream of lines
and circular movement requirements may become available at some point in
future as Mach4's development moves forward....
