Re: DeskNC - CNC Pro 3x as fast as EMC???

Hi Tom, Matt and the list,

Good thoughts! I think MOST of us are that way. We each have our
favorite topics, topics we are interested in, topics we can't even
follow, and topics we no nothing about, but want to learn.

For myself, I support my family and pursuits by writing software and
designing a little hardware for embedded products and systems.

I do a little amateur CNC machining, "STILL" building an old steam
engine plan of mine. I've gone from building my own stepper drivers, to
buying some of the best.

I bought MaxNC software, 4-phase stepper driver and motors to add to my
old Sears/Sherline, and although it is working reasonably, I'm
currently buying new motors and drivers, and looking to get either a new
Sherline, or something about the size of an EMCO FB-2. A new software
controller package is also probably in order. EMC? I'm working on that
too.

I enjoy writing software to run steppers, and want to write/build a hand
held "jog" controller similar to Sherline's to control my rotary table.

I bought Vector CAD/CAM, and enjoy using it. No, I don't think I'll
write a CAD program!

I enjoy hearing about projects on various levels, from the "tinker"
level, to the complex commercial CNC machines and retrofits. The
machinist aspects and BIG machine threads are often over my head, but I
pick up a little each time.

I will "build" some pieces for my own edification, others I will buy
until it suits me to build them. I'd probably buy another mill or lathe
for now, but BUILDING one is not out of the question! I chickened out
on a BIG BOSS 5!

I'd hate to see the list "broken down into groups". I know that Matt
meant the groups ONLY as a way of describing people's interests. And a
good description it was! I see part myself in several groups, as I
suspect others do. I LOVE the mix of ideas and information! Pure
symbiosis!

May the Swarf be with you!
