Thanks Keith, quite helpful. I hadn't thought about the reverse
leadscrew on the x axis. I just figured I could cobble up some
brackets good enough to let me mill the right ones. Won't really
know until I start to take it apart, but I've done an awful lot of
prototype fabrication so I should be able to get something close
enough to work I think without too much effort. Spotted the
hydraulic table clamp problem, that could be interesting to solve.
Aren't there hydraulic clamps on the knee vertical ways too? (and
what about 'y'?) Maybe some sort of air over oil unit with an
accumulator would work, or even an automobile ABS pump with an
accumulator. I've got one of those pumps without a motor. ($20 at
the taxi garage. The motors burn up.)
The head does indeed have a hand lever, just like the one on a
standard Bridgeport. Haven't located the quill lock yet and there's
no fine feed, but the ram appears to have all the adjustability of
the standard Bridgeport ram. For the knee, I expect I'd be satisfied
with a power drive attached to the hand crank shaft. A "Servo" brand
unit would be acceptable unless I get to where I want to run 4 axis
control, but of course they are a bit pricey. No hurry there. I
expect the carousel and drawbar will prove interesting as well, and
I've got to set up a phase generator with a single phase motor to
spool it up before power is applied. (It's a 15 hp 3 phase motor and
I do not have 60 amps of shop power to just kick it on with a
capacitor. Though I do have a suitable capacitor.)
Don't have a DRO for it. Maybe I'll run across something.
I can't really do anything until I get it off the trailer anyway. I
hope to do that by next weekend but I have to reinforce my trailer
ramps. They got bent loading it.
