Oh, well, if it is built like a Bridgeport, then that's what I did. In
fact it is what Bridgeport
does on their new Ez-Trak machines. See my web pages for some pictures :

whole head, there's
a link to "My Z-axis drive" with a set of pictures from different
angles. This drives the
quill by the hole where the stop ring goes, and attaches to the housing
by the holes that
the stop rod normally sits in.
