I went with a bridgeport bracket split in half the first time, but had to
fabricate a right angle weldment for the Y axis to get enough stiffness.
On the knee, I removed the cylinder mount extension casting and worked from
the knee casting flat face to mount the 'Y'.

works by pressing thin flex plates against the ways. (underside of the
saddle, integral with the metal keeper plates)
The clamp cylinders are flat discs about 1" in diameter, 0.100 thick. I
think the X axis clamp, at least, had 0.375" dia bosses that are what
actually contact the metal strip.
The 'X' clamping distance is only 24" or so, so I took it off to keep the
metal strip from catching on the cylinders inside the clamp, among other
things.
