The strongest way I have seen was on a 7 tons Hillier mill.
simply a couple of hardened and ground box ways with the table
running on linear bearings with recirculating needles.
The table weighted about 1,2 tons ore more and you could push it
easily with the drive belt disconnected.
The idea with the round linear bearing pushing up the dovetail
slide doesn't convince me still.
In one occasion I wanted to get bearings like these and they were
EXPENSIVE and had 5 month delivery time.
