A similar question: When does a "router" motor become a hi-freq
"spindle" motor? As soon as ya say "Spindle", the price goes up. :-)
Yes, the "servo" motor is optimised for accel/decel characteristics,
low to no "cogging", stability of input volts/amps vs. output rpm and
is overall generally higher quality than a "stock" motor.
There is nothing preventing the use of a "non-servo" motor except
performance, assuming electrical considerations are met (apples to
apples).
