There is a spray can and oven technique on the market but it does not work too
well. We used it as a quick fix anti gall on 316ss to 316ss - it works but
comes off easily.
Later we used a shop applied version both for anti gall and corrosion protection
for moist HCl in 316L. This will pinhole while you watch unprotected
.Particles still come off but it works. The manufacturers of the material
license the applicator for a fee and will only sell to license holders. This
keeps sloppy work and bad results off the market so don't complain about it. A
few years ago someone was repackaging material and selling it but they got
stopped. We used a lot of different filled polymers usually TFPE for compressor
rings and seals and cryogenic pumps non lubricated. Work fine when you get the
right stuff. Sucess requires expreience. There are a lot of srewups out there.
The polymers cold flow which is one reason for the filler. Cold flow and tramp
pickup will make the material unsuitable for machine tools as a bearing
material
The future will involve ceramic materials. Some of these are here in some use
now, But they will not be home workable or cheap.
