This email is horribly representative of the misconceptions many people have
about he project... Most of what you say was true but to a large extent it
is no longer true. The print quality of a well tuned reprap today exceeds
that of a $20,000 Stratasys Dmiension, and you can print more materials and
colors. It is also faster making the same print. You are correct that it is
still not generally suitable as a consumer product, but it is not marketed
as one, and anyone who suggests it is (for example Bre from Makerbot) is
either lying or horribly misinformed. That said, we are now at a point where
it is /almost/ consumer friendly. The last big issue is the software, which
is still not user-friendly enough, but a couple projects are underway that
should fix this problem.
