Anyway, I've been sort of getting the bug myself lately. I just got my
gantry router working, and was thinking it might not be too hard to build an
extruder head for it and have a 3D printer in short order. I looked at the
latest head for the MakerBot, and I'm sure I could build the hardware and
electronics without too much trouble. But despite their claims to be an
"open source" project, there is no *source* code available anywhere for the
various microcontrollers (all Arduino, apparently). Neither do they publish
any schematics. Open source my @$$. Not that I think I'm entitled to
anything. Except maybe the truth. The only software I could find for
translating 3D models into G-Code was Skeinforge. There is ReplicatorG, but
that appears to be a wrapper for Skeinforge. What can you tell us about the
CAD/CAM tool chain to make this work?
