No one would argue that the RepRap documentation doesn't suck. It
does. In fact in many areas it sucks badly. But it is quite a big jump
from "the documentation sucks" to "there is a global conspiracy to
make sure that Phil M. does not get a RepRap without buying one".

It seems to me that you made a big fallacy in the reasoning that lead
you to your conclusion. You seem to assume that because YOU cannot
understand the documentation, NO ONE can understand it. I am sure you
are correct and that you have many varied skills, but unless you are
claiming that you are a super-genius of some sort, it seems reasonable
that there are things in the world that you do not understand yet are
quite understandable to others. I am sure even Albert Einstein had to
ask for help now and then. Judging from the many thousands of RepRaps
in the world today, a significant percentage of which were
self-sourced (my own included), it is clear that it is possible to
build a reprap, and it is even possible to do so without spending a
dime at one of the normal RepRap suppliers (though you are asking for
trouble if you do not at least source your hot end from one of the
known suppliers).

The simple reality is that the reprap is a RAPIDLY changing open
source project. Few open source projects have good documentation to
begin with, and almost no open source projects change even half as
quickly as the stuff in the reprap world does. I follow it VERY
closely, and even I don't know half of what is going on at any given
time. It is almost impossible to keep the documentation current, let
alone keeping it organized.

Lol again. You are a very funny man. Too bad you are not trying to be.
You need to stop, take a deep breath, and realize that the world is
not conspiring against you. I have no "interests" here except the
interest in a fun, useful hobby and, if possible, helping others to
get started in the hobby.

As I have said, I make no money from the reprap, in spite of being a
significant contributor to two of the available electronics designs
(including one of the two most popular), a minor contributor to the
other popular design, and the lead architect of what I hope to be the
next generation electronics system (I don't make a dime from any of
those). I am also about to release what I fully expect to be the new
standard RepRap design, and while I will probably sell a few part sets
on eBay to recoup some the costs of the development, I do not expect
to make any significant amount of money from this design, either. I do
not receive any monetary compensation from any of the suppliers for
giving advice. I have gotten samples from a couple suppliers, but I
assure you those do not effect who I recommend in any way. I do all
this because I enjoy it, there is no other "interest" involved.

If you are willing to put aside your conspiracy theories, I am HAPPY
to help you understand what you need. For example it seems like one
question you should have asked, but didn't was "If you do not
recommend EMC or Mach3, and I don't want to buy pre-made electronics,
are there other options available to me?" If you had asked that
question (or something similar) I would have pointed you to the Gen7
design, which is completely DIY, designed for home etching or cnc
routing. I would provide you a link, but the reprap wiki is down right
now (Though it is possible that is just people conspiring to keep you
from finding this valuable piece of information). But if you go to the
reprap Wiki later and search for "Gen 7" or possibly "Gen7" I am sure
you can find it.

If you have other questions, feel free to ask. If you just want to
rant some more about how evil we all are, feel free to do that also,
just do it somewhere else.
